Pokemon GO started as an April Fools Day Joke.
In 2014 Google and Niantic Inc. teamed up to prank the world. They added Pokemon to Google Maps and allowed users to “catch” the Pokemon by clicking on their images. Google’s team also created this video to accompany the gag.
