Google is working to change all that by integrating VR-viewing capabilities onto Chrome. The update will allow users to navigate the internet in VR.
WebVR is an experimental JavaScript API that gives access to VR Hardware. the HTC VIVE, Oculus Rift, Gear VR, and Google Cardboard, can all be enabled in your browser.
WebVR developer Josh Carpenter confirmed that the project would allow users to traverse between WebVR experiences “without dropping out of VR mode.”
With ~4 billion downloads, Chrome’s platform could potentially greatly accelerate the adoption of VR amongst mobile users. Google is also exploring Chrome support for Vive and HTC hardware.
Only time will tell what the future of internet browsing will look like…
