What started as a 2014 April Fools joke between Google and Niantic, Pokemon GO exploded onto the world’s stage once it was launched in July of 2016. By August 2016 the game hit over 100 million downloads and had surpassed Twitter’s active user numbers. The game’s massive success helped propel worldwide adoption of AR apps.
